A single embedded into pop culture history, Hoobastank’s “The Reason” recently entered the elite Billions Club on Spotify as the song surpassed 1 billion streams, currently sitting at 1.35 billion. With just over 600 songs having reached this milestone, Hoobastank is one of the latest to be added into the illustrious playlist alongside music legends such as AC/DC, The Beatles, Whitney Houston, Elton John, and more.

In December 2023, Hoobastank celebrated 20 years since the release of their sophomore album “The Reason.” The album took the band to even greater heights following the success of their 2001 debut Hoobastank which featured hit singles “Crawling In The Dark,” “Running Away,” and “Remember Me,” all of which have since been certified RIAA platinum. “The Reason” featured the massively successful single of the same name, which helped solidify the band as a household name.

Despite “The Reason” turning 20 last year, the song continues to connect with early supporters as well as a whole new generation of fans two decades later. In addition to the Spotify milestone, the band celebrated as the official music video surpassed 1 billion views on YouTube, elevating them into the platform’s exclusive billions club among other major artists.

Hoobastank has also experienced a resurgence in the mainstream through TikTok and hit TV shows. The viral success of the #NotAPerfectPerson trend on TikTok brought new attention to the single, inspiring user-generated content centered around humorous fails. When Netflix’s hit show Beef gained major popularity in 2023, it featured “The Reason,” prompting the song to re-enter the iTunes Rock charts and appear on Shazam’s US Top 200. The band and the song were also recently featured in Building The Band (Netflix), The Boys (Amazon), and We Are Lady Parts (Peacock).

Because of this renewed mainstream attention and a new generation of music fans discovering the band’s catalog, Hoobastank is currently clocking in at over 12 million monthly listeners.
