The Dollyrots

For over 20 years, The Dollyrots have been a shining example of how to mix raw punk energy with catchy bubblegum melodies, all while living life entirely on their own terms. Fronted by bassist and vocalist Kelly Ogden and guitarist Luis Cabezas, this power duo has built a legacy of anthemic tunes, relentless touring, and an unwavering DIY ethos. But what sets them apart isn’t just their music—it’s their ability to balance the chaos of rock ’n’ roll with raising kids who are now old enough to take the stage on their own.

Growing up together in Florida, followed by a decade-long stint in Los Angeles, The Dollyrots emerged from the L.A. punk scene with a style that blends humor, heart, and high energy. The band has released nine studio albums, beginning with their 2004 debut on the legendary Lookout! Records. The next two LPs were released through Joan Jett’s Blackheart Records, followed by several DIY, fan-funded releases and a current alliance with Stevie Van Zandt’s Wicked Cool Records.

Long a staple in rotation on SiriusXM’s *Little Steven’s Underground Garage*, the band’s output caught the attention of the Wicked Cool founder and E Street Band powerhouse himself. “Their songwriting has reached a consistent level of greatness,” Van Zandt says. The Dollyrots kept the momentum going in 2025 with the 7” single *Get On This Ride*, a sugar-rush of party-starting rock ’n’ roll backed with a cover of Leslie Gore’s feminist classic “You Don’t Own Me.”

The duo have played over two thousand shows, both headlining and supporting the likes of Bowling For Soup, Buzzcocks, Joan Jett, The Go-Go’s, Black Flag, The Breeders, and many more. The band has hit the Billboard Heatseekers and Independent Albums Top 20 several times and has been featured in movies and TV shows including *Nimona*, *Billions*, and *The Price Is Right*, as well as classics like *Easy A* and *CSI: NY*. Their anthem “Because I’m Awesome” has surpassed 3 million streams on Spotify, becoming a rallying cry for sarcastic self-confidence.

Their most recent album, *Night Owls*, was co-produced by longtime collaborator John Fields (Jimmy Eat World, All Time Low, Meet Me at the Altar) and includes multiple tracks receiving heavy rotation on SiriusXM, along with features on NPR’s *New Music Friday* and Spotify’s *New in Punk* playlists. The band’s influence also extends to radio, where Kelly stars as a DJ on SiriusXM Channel 21, *The Underground Garage*. She also shares a side project with Bowling For Soup frontman Jaret Reddick called *Jaret and Kelly*.

Kelly and Luis aren’t just bandmates—they’re life partners who’ve turned their music into a family affair. Their two kids, River and Daisy, have grown up on the road, trading playgrounds for green rooms and bedtime stories for soundchecks. Rather than seeing family life as a limitation, Kelly and Luis have woven it into the fabric of their music and lifestyle. Fans have watched them grow from scrappy up-and-comers into seasoned musicians and parents, and that connection makes the music hit even harder. They prove that you don’t have to give up your passions to raise a family—and that punk rock isn’t just about rebellion, but about creating your own path and sticking to it.
